About Becca
Becca started riding when she was five years old and by six, knew she wanted to become a trainer and barn owner. She was introduced to eventing at 11 and began her training with FEI rider Christan Trainor. Under her guidance, Becca evented her first horse, Cookie, up to the Novice level and by high school, was eventing Prelim on her pony, JJ.
In 2010 after studying Psychology at Guilford College, she started teaching riding lessons in Siler City. In 2015, she became a working student under head trainer and USDF gold medalist, Susie Wiedman, at Encore Sporthorse in Sanford, NC. With the help of Susie's coaching and FEI "O" judge Linda Zang's clinics, she earned her 1st and 2nd level scores for her USDF bronze medal on Jan Benton Rand's horse, Vasco. She also began riding Mary Tompkin's horse, Delmonico, with whom she earned her 3rd level scores. In 2017, Delmonico showed an interest in flying so Becca introduced him to crossrails. She continued his jump training and now events him at the Prelim level under her trainer, Mari Secrist.
Becca's current goals include earning her USDF silver medal in dressage and run a 2* on Delmonico while also raising her little boy, JJ, with her husband on the farm. She's excited to continue working with her group of dedicated riders and her clients' green horses in reaching their own goals.
Training Style
Becca loves training young horses, jumping, and has grown to love dressage. Her training method finds an equal balance of arena training and being out in open space - either hacking out or working in a grassy field. She finds that exercises such as power walks, hill training, and open range conditioning can be positive mentally and physically for the rider and horse, building situational confidence and functional fitness and strength.
